DVDSpirit requires at least 33.7 MB of free disk space, which should not be a problem for any modern day computer. You just need to specify a destination folder and click a button to install the software. It is compatible with both 32 and 64-bit editions of Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7 and it does not require powerful hardware.

The software provides separate features, for ripping movies and TV series. It guides you with step by step instructions, through both procedures, just like a wizard. There are no welcome screens to slow you down, so you can choose to rip a movie or a TV series, when you launch the program. Regardless of your choice, DVDSpirit will scan your loaded DVD or a mounted image, so there is no need to select a drive, unless you have multiple DVDs loaded into your computer.

If you choose to rip a movie, you must select its audio and subtitle tracks and make a series of video and audio adjustments. You may select a different video size, codec, framerate, bitrate, mono or stereo channels and much more. Alternatively, you may select a predefined quality level, in a drop menu, located on the same page. All the settings will be made automatically, depending on the selected quality level. The available output formats can be found in a different drop menu. DVDSpirit is capable of converting DVDs to AVI, MOV, MPEG or various MP4 formats, which are optimized for the Apple iPad, iPhone or iPod and other mobile devices.

To rip a TV series, you must go through a similar procedure. The only difference is that you can choose which titles to convert. You can rip specific episodes from a TV series or certain movie segments.
